Meet Manhattan Tutor Zoranlly

My name – Zoranlly – is spelled properly by only a few and almost no one knows who to pronounce it (it’s pronounced “Zorangie”). It was created by my parents by combining their names!

Q: Tell us about you:

A: I’ve been a tutor at Kaplan for almost seven years. My students are as much a part of my life as I am of theirs. The most fulfilling part is being able to teach students and see their confidence increase when they work on the same topics at school. Academic progress and confidence are increased when the students see you as a peer and teacher who has their best interest at hand, and that’s my goal each time I tutor my students. Most of my students are in the Upper West Side – I love that neighborhood.

I have a BA in Education and Spanish, and I’m currently working on my MA in Spanish Literature thanks to the flexibility of my students and their parents.

Q: What’s the funniest or oddest thing a kid has ever said to you?

A: One student actually asked me once what kind of Spanish I was. It was asked in a very inquisitive way and with no harm meant so I started laughing and explained my nationality. Then I asked why she had asked that, and her response was because my Spanish sounds funny.

Q: Tell us about something you really enjoy teaching:

A: My favorite skills to teach are those that are part of the higher math curriculum. I love pre-algebra and algebra topics like geometry, trigonometry, slope, functions, etc. I also like to teach my students the methods that make higher level math simpler and explain the reasoning behind the concept.

Q: What are your favorite hobbies?

A: My favorite hobbies are reading, working out and spending time with my family. I enjoy being outdoors and barbecuing. I am a neat freak so I also spend tons of times organizing and cleaning my house.
